Just One More Thing: A Deadly State of Mind

Notes and screenshots for A Deadly State of Mind: Originally broadcast on April 27, 1975, starring George Hamilton as a sneering psychiatrist, Leslie Ann Warren as a nubile neurotic, plus appearances by Bruce Kirby and Fred Draper and, of course, Peter Falk as Columbo.

"During a physical altercation, a psychiatrist who specializes in hypnosis kills the husband of a patient with whom he's been having an affair and convinces the wife to lie to the police; it's up to Lt. Columbo to discover the truth."

-IMDB Summary

"In “A Deadly State of Mind,” George Hamilton plays Dr. Mark Collier, a deeply, deeply creepy psychologist. Complications with his patient/lover, played by Lesley “No ‘Ann’ For Some Reason” Warren threaten his career and murder ensues, but Columbo is on the case. RJ, Jon and guests Brenna Zedan and Anne Moloney (of the LadyLike Book Club) dig deep into this tale of barbituates, swimming, hypnosis, unethical medical practices and beige leather. As Anne says, it’s not a good episode for ladies and dogs."

A Deadly State of Mind
Season 4, Episode #6
Director:  Harvey Hart
Writers: Peter S. Fischer

George Hamilton plays the world’s most inappropriate doctor, sleeping with his drugged-up and neurotic patient (Lesley Ann Warren, operating at greater than 3200 O-Faces per minute), his research assistant (Some Actress, nursing a cough) and maybe Columbo, what do I know, it’s the Seventies.

I keep picturing an alternate universe where Hamilton was cast in Powers Boothe’s role as Cy Tolliver in Deadwood. And why not? The guy’s still alive, there must be an HBO vanity project out there for him somewhere. They gave Dabney Coleman a sweet role on Boardwalk Empire, Hamilton’s still alive, we can at least get him on AMC I bet. He’s got a neat face, he’d make an interesting villain with that face…

Anyway, at one point in this episode, Hamilton ends up wearing a George Hamilton-colored suit, just all tan leather and beige turtleneck, he looks like he’s buck naked in a world where the human body has naturally occurring sleeves. Also, Lesley Ann Warren walks around in a Lesley Ann Warren-colored suit, but that’s because she’s traipsing on a balcony butt-ass starkers and clutching at herself in a pre-suicidal hypnotic fuck trance of some sort, pardon my french.
